The Look Ahead Project

The Look AHEAD Project is a landmark, multiple-year clinical investigation of how weight loss affects the rate of heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular disease in men and women who are overweight and have type 2 diabetes. The study receives funding from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). F. Xavier Pi-Sunyer, MD, Chief, Endocrinology, Diabetes and Nutrition, and Director of the Obesity Research Center at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center, is national co-principal investigator of this 16-site landmark study, as well as the principal investigator for the St. Luke's-Roosevelt site.

"Obesity in America is a serious risk factor for a number of diseases and conditions, diabetes especially," says Dr. Pi-Sunyer. "This study will help us understand the effects of weight loss on diabetes and many other disorders."

This study is currently full and no long recruiting participants. Please check back at a later time for more opportunities.
