Your First Visit: What You Should Know

If you or a loved one has been referred to a cardiac surgeon, you may find yourself with more questions than answers: Should you opt for traditional surgery or consider today’s advanced minimally-invasive techniques? What can you expect in terms of recovery time – and a return to an active life? Should you even have heart surgery at all?

During your first visit with Dr. Balaram, she’ll help you answer these questions – and more. While each patient’s individual condition – and therefore their initial consultation – is different, in general, you should expect Dr. Balaram to:
  • Thoroughly review the results of tests you’ve already had done, such as an echocardiogram, CT scan, and/or cardiac catheterization. Bring all results with you to your visit, or have them sent to our office by your doctor.
  • Determine whether or not further testing is needed
  • Perform a general physical exam
  • Talk to you about your personal priorities and lifestyle goals
  • Discuss your treatment options.

Working together, Dr. Balaram will help you decide the best treatment option . . . and will be there for you, every step of the way. If you or someone you know would like to schedule an appointment for a cardiac surgery consult with Dr. Sandhya Balaram, please call 212-523-2798. .
